This study represents the first Far infrared, Mid infrared, Raman spectroscopic and SEM-EDX studies of the pollutants from the walls of Valence Aqueduct (Aqueduct of Valens), Istanbul, Turkey. Provided that enough amount of sample is available, Far infrared spectroscopy is a useful analytical method particularly in characterisation of inorganic compounds such as painting materials and corrosion products, which are not active in the mid-infrared. Furthermore, far-infrared spectroscopy is a complementary technique to Raman spectroscopy in particular in the presence of fluorescence.
