RISK ANALYSIS AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES IN ISTANBUL PALACE BEYLERBEYI Recommendations

KUZUCUOĞLU, ALPASLAN HAMDİ (2011). RISK ANALYSIS AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES IN ISTANBUL PALACE BEYLERBEYI Recommendations, Istanbul University, Unpublished PhD Thesis.

Reflecting the distant and recent past period, the nature of historical documents, When carrying the criteria and aesthetic value of objects is to keep light from past to present and future. Therefore are cultural assets that must be protected. Bunce limited amenities and maintenance of the archaeological artifacts removed with serious dedication, storing and displaying require a separate expertise. It is not enough in many building maintenance building used as a museum in Turkey. Passive konservasyon also called healthy conditions of temperature and work, light, nem gibi ve afetler nedeniyle meydana gelebilecek her türlü etkiler için riskin en aza indirilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Tez çalışması, significantly affecting the temperature of the physical and chemical degradation of the objects on display in the museum, relative humidity, air pollution, dust, monitoring the environment through light and vibration sensors of the risks posed by factors of (ambient monitoring), is transferred to a data base of these data, material analysis and includes proposals will provide protective measures to minimize the risk of downloading the evaluation of all the results.

Natural disasters or human potential damage to fragile objects that could intentionally or unintentionally induced vibrations such as earthquakes examined, the study is supported by experimental methods.

Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen verilere göre müze personelinin ve konservatörlerin müze hasarını kısa bir sürede saptayabileceği kontrol listesi sunulmuştur

ABSTRACT

RISK ANALYSIS IN THE ISTANBUL BEYLERBEYI PALACE AND PROPOSALS OF CONSERVATIVE MEASURE

The objects belong to far and near historical periods which contain historic, aesthetic value reflect important information from past to present and even for future. Therefore, cultural heritage must be protected. Archaeological artifacts which are obtained with limited facilities and significant effort, require special expertise on maintenance, storage and display of artifacts. Many historical buildings in Turkey are used as museum buildings are not technically adequate. Convenient exhibit and storage conditions of museum artifacts as temperature, light, humidity and protection from all types of disasters called as “passive conservation” has great importance to minimize the risk.

The thesis emphasizes temperature, relative humidity, air pollution, dust, light, vibration and other risk factors which significantly affecting the physical and chemical degradation of museum objects, environment monitoring via sensors (ambient monitoring), transferring data to a database, the analysis of materials, preventive measures include recommendations to minimize the risks.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires and human-made vibrations which intentionally or unintentionally effects on vulnerable artifacts in museums are examined by experimental methods in the study.

At the end of the study a checklist is prepared for quick survey, according to the data obtained as a result of evaluation of museum staff or museum conservators.
